Lent season means more fish dishes in our household. One of my weakpoint cuisines I think since I haven't really cooked a lot of fish dishes more for reasons that I don't get my fill when I eat fish. I end up eating more carbs. One thing that I like about cooking fish is that it's quick and simple (at least the ones that I'm familiar with).

A and I were planning to walk to Tapa King for dinner, but when I looked out the window, it's raining outside. So, that leads us back to whatever's in our kitchen. Alright, so I'm getting so into drinking healthy habit (no comments on the eating part, let's do this one step at a time) that I've started packing our fridge with all these yogurt and juice drinks. Meet our Drink Team! It comprises of yogurt drinks and fruit juices. Based on our current lifestyle, fresh fruits aren't advisable to keep (consumption rate vs. fresh fruit shelf life). I get my daily dose of fresh fruits by eating banana or watermelon at the workplace cafeteria. Not sure where A gets his, but you can be sure that he takes on healthy food much more than I do. A's been asking me where I want to eat for Heart's Day. It would've been easy to come up with one, but I don't thinkit's going to be easy to beat the view we have at home. So, I opted for placing orders from a couple of my favorite suppliers.
Since I'm still in the middle of planning of meal for the week before we head off to the grocery, I'm left to create something out of what we have in the fridge. We usually eat the same food, but for today's brunch, I opted for serving something that caters to each other's respective preference. It's so easy to spot the healthy eater in the household
We had a simple dinner, the three of us - A, Snuz, and myself. At first, I thought of eating out for dinner for A's birthday (chances are it would be in a Chinese restaurant so he could have his birthday noodles). Then, I thought of how lovely our view is from our unit that maybe I could just cook for him. I figured I'd probably save more money if we just ate out (and I was right!), but I've never tried making birthday noodles as well. So, might as well grab the opportunity. Today we've managed to cook the first dish in the new home despite the lack of storage space and other kitchen stuffs still in the box. We've managed to survive the week by buying food from our respective offices and I'll be buying extra for take out to serve as our dinner. Our buffet cabinet is supposed to be delivered today, but I have no idea what time they're coming (Hurry up, please! I wanna get everything out of the box already!). Anyway, there wasn't much cooking involved actually as the sugpo came from my mom and the pesto was a gift to us for Christmas. So, all I did was cook the pasta and mix the whole thing up. Nonetheless, I'm happy that the kitchen has been fired up already I was about to begin trying out this strawberry cupcake recipe from gastronomyblog when A came home. He asked me if he can help me in the kitchen (am just not sure if it was a rhetorical question), so he ended up taking Baking 101 with me. Home Cooking: Banana Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cupcakes With Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Frosting 2 Ways1/11/2011 The recipe name's a mouthful, but that's pretty much what it contains. A came to me this morning to tell me that we still have some bottles of peanut butter from Cebu. Unfortunately, the bottle doesn't come with a name of the manufacturer. Someone just gives us some. We were told that it's a home-based business and sells for around Php60 per bottle. I'd have to say that this is the best local peanut butter that I've tasted. Anyway, with the surplus of bottles that we have, I thought I'd make some cupcakes and try to free up some needed pantry space. |
